The Fossiata is a large forest that sits at the intersection between the tyrrenian and the ionian section of the Sila Grande. Not a tourist magnet as the rest of the plateau, it will greet you with a silence modern city people often have forgotten. Not utter lack of sound, but a simphony of deers grunting, birds chirping, ferns wooshing in the gentle breeze. The woods are dark and moody, with almost no light reaching the forest floor if not in the midst of the day, and streams run furiously by eons still cutting their way into canyons and valleys. A few paths intersect all these beauty, but in order to really enjoy the place you will have to abandon them and get deep in the woods.
